First Grade News #11

by Tara DeWitt

December 10, 2009

First Grade News #11 Today, the first graders were interviewed by a radio station about what they want for Christmas. The station tries to do this with the first graders each year. It will air on _____________ at ____________ on Dec. 10th. How exciting! We have been having fun in math. We are still practicing our addition and subtraction facts. I recently introduced “odd” numbers from 1-23. Practice counting by 2’s at home, both evens and odds! We have also begun telling time. We have started out learning to the hour. We will begin half-hours soon. Keep reading with your child. They are having fun with the centers activities and reading books with me and other teachers. Some of the centers that come home are just for fun, so don’t worry if they aren’t completed or correct. Sometimes I challenge them to see what they can do! The High School Student Council food drive ends on Friday, Dec. 11th. Send in food if you are able! Keep sending box tops! Reminder: Believe it or not, Christmas is approaching! We are going to do a Secret Santa exchange again this year in the classroom. Teachers decided a $3-$5 gift would be appropriate. I think it would be easiest if boys purchased “boy gifts” and girls purchased “girl gifts.” Of course, with some gifts, gender may not matter. Please send them in wrapped anytime before Dec. 18th. FYI: The first annual Avon Christmas Walk is on Sunday, Dec. 6th from 5-7pm. Our class made decorations and they are hanging in the window at Tompkins Bank. The grade school Winter Concert is Monday, Dec. 7th at 7:00pm. Students should start arriving in the middle school wing at 6:30pm. Please arrive on time so we don’t worry about you! Please dress nicely. (Slacks, dress shirts, dresses, etc.) As always, thanks for your help and support, Ms. DeWitt
