State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chris Koch has approved the Abingdon/Avon/Bushnell Prairie City school consolidation petition. This clears the way for the initiative to appear on the March 20, 2012 election ballot.

Consolidation Petition Hearing Notice

 

PUBLIC NOTICE OF PETITION AND HEARING

 

Notice is hereby given that a Petition in accordance with Section 11E et. seq. of the School Code was filed on September 23, 2011, with John Meixner, Regional Superintendent of Schools of Hancock and McDonough Counties, requesting that a proposition to form a new combined unit school district of the entire territory comprising three (3) school districts, namely the Abingdon Community Unit School District No. 217, Knox and Warren Counties; the Avon Community Unit School District No. 176,  Fulton and Knox Counties; and the  Bushnell-Prairie City  Community School District No. 170, McDonough, Fulton, and Warren Counties,  to establish tax rates for the new school district so created, to provide for the election of board of education members on a separate ballot for the new combined unit school district whereby members of the board of education of the new combined unit school district are elected from equal population districts and hereby requesting an election to be held in said existing community unit school districts on that proposition on March 20, 2012.

 

The Petition sets forth the authority to levy taxes at the maximum rates set forth below in the following funds:

 

 

 

A public hearing on this Petition will be conducted on October 27, 2011, at 7:30 P.M. in the Gymnasium of the Avon Community Unit District in Avon, IL.  If required, the hearing may be adjourned from one time to another.

 

Any resident in the proposed combined unit district or any district affected thereby may appear at said hearing and present testimony either in support or opposition to said Petition.  Nominating packets for citizens interested in running for election to the Board of Education for the proposed combined unit district will be made available at the Abingdon, Avon, and Bushnell-Prairie City Unit Offices beginning October 3, 2011.

The Avon Board of Education adopted a resolution approving a petition for the consolidation of the Abingdon, Avon, and Bushnell-Prairie City school districts. The petition, if approved by all three Boards of Education, will be presented to the McDonough-Hancock Regional Office of Education to continue the legal process.
