Kindernews #1 2009-2010 Welcome to Mrs. B.’s Kindergarten . .
.
1. NOTEBOOKS & FOLDERS will be used again this year. It is VERY
important that your child carries both of these back and forth
every day! Look for notes from me in the notebooks, please. Initial
them, after you have read them. We will look for notes from you
every morning, so please write important information in the
notebook. [This is practice for when you will be finding homework
assignments in the notebooks in years to come.] When the notebooks
are used for homework, you will no longer sent notes in them. I
will be sending items of interest to you in the folder.
Please send things you want me to see in the folder as well. Watch
for
notes on colored or decorative paper in particular.
2. Ms. Knapp will assist with learning in our classroom, again this
year. J
3. STUDENT LUNCHES will be $1.60 per day. Milk is included with
each hot lunch. However, snack milk will cost $.30 more each day.
Send money on the FIRST day of the week, if possible, please. If
you are paying for student lunches at a reduced rate or your
child’s lunches are being paid some other way, the milk with snacks
is still $.30 each day. Children who bring a sack lunch may
purchase milk. *Breakfast costs $.90.
4. MONEY for school purposes (milk, lunches, book orders, etc.)
should be sent in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, grade,
amount, and the purpose of the money written on the outside of the
envelope.
5. IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN PLANS, send the change to school in
writing, EACH time it occurs, please. It is necessary that school
people be informed of changes, to help insure the safety of the
children. IF A NOTE IS NOT SENT, WE MUST FOLLOW THE USUAL DAILY
ROUTINE. (If plans change after your child has left for school, you
may call the school and leave a message, which will be given to
me.) If you need to pick up your child early, go to the office and
sign him/her out. Someone will let me know you have arrived and I
will have your child walk to the office to meet you.
6. Kindergartners should enter the school through the four main
doors outside Mrs. King’s office. Help your child become more
independent by allowing him/her to enter alone. Likewise, wait for
your children at these doors, at the end of the day. * IF A STUDENT
ARRIVES LATE, he/she must check in at the office to get a pass
before coming to the classroom.
7. SNACKS will be served in our classroom every morning. A calendar
will be sent indicating the day each parent is to provide our class
with snacks. Since our mornings are long this year, we are asking
that the snacks be a “breakfast type” snack. Examples: fruit,
cereal, graham crackers, cheese sticks, breakfast bars, peanut
butter or cheese-filled crackers, etc. ***Mark your calendar, when
it is your turn to provide treats, please. The children become
quite hungry before our 12:20 p.m. lunch time. Thanks! ** Please
inform me of any food allergies your child has. *[There are 23
children in our class this year.]
8. SPECIAL TREATS may be provided for birthdays. These treats may
include cake, suckers, ice cream, etc. (No gum, please.) Send
needed supplies: plates, bowls, plastic spoons or forks, etc.
please.
9. KINDERGARTNERS NEED GYM SHOES for safety, when going to P.E.
classes and playing on the playground. They may bring gym shoes to
school and change before playing, if they wear sandals, flip-flops,
or slippery-soled shoes to school. It is fine for them to wear the
tennis shoes they have worn from home, instead of having a special
pair for P.E. **The Kindergartners have P.E. every afternoon.
J`
10. SHOW AND TELL will be three days each week. One third of
the
students will have a turn to share on each of the three middle days
of the
week. This way, everyone should have a turn every week. If your
child is
absent on the day he/she is to share, his/her turn will come again
the
next week. I will send a schedule soon. Items of interest may
be
brought, as long as they are not toys, weapons, or other items
related to
violence. ** This sharing is a choice, not an assignment. If your
child is
having trouble choosing something to bring or tell about, wait for
the
next turn. [Nature items, photos, sharing about weekend activities,
etc.
work well.]
11. SCHOOL VISITS BY FAMILY MEMBERS are fine, as long as you
first
sign in at the office, where you will be given a “visitor’s
pass.”
Then, someone will notify the person in charge in the classroom of
your
arrival. If you would like to eat lunch with your child, pay for
your
meal, when you sign in at the office. * Adult lunches cost
$2.10.
12. In an attempt to help the children in our classroom remain
more
healthy, we will be using the Clorox wipes you sent to school, on
door
knobs, faucet handles, chairs, tables, etc. To give the children
more
ownership of this aspect of our classroom, I would like them to
help with
the cleaning. Therefore, I need to know if your child has contact
allergies
and shouldn’t touch the cleaning cloths.
This week, school will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on August 24th
only.
School will dismiss at 2:05 p.m. August 25th through Sept. 3rd.
September 4th students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. again.
The “Meet the Teacher Night” is scheduled for Wednesday, August
26th at 6: 00 P.M.
I am looking forward to getting to know your child, and enjoying a
year of learning with him/her. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Brahmstedt
